To coordinate and execute a free, one-day event dedicated to informing and inspiring the community of Encinitas about recent progress, practical solutions, and new opportunities for improving eco-sustainability.

HISTORY

EcoFest is the longest-running environmental fair in north San Diego county. 

In 2005, Encinitas Parks & Recreation Commission chairman and local environmental activist Bob Nanninga wanted North County San Diego to have its own version of Earth Day. In order not to compete directly with the juggernaut Earth Day celebration at Balboa Park, Bob chose the United Nations’ World Environment Day (June 5) as the date around which to hold his environmental celebration, Encinitas Environment Day (EEDay).

EEDay was held at the Orchid Award-winning Cottonwood Creek Park for nine years. Since then, it has been renamed EcoFest and has been held at the Leichtag Foundation property, formerly Ecke Ranch. For 2020, EcoFest was planned to be held at the latest new park, Encinitas Community Park, but the location has been changed back to the original Cottonwood Creek Park for 2021!

Seen as a holistic way to bring together the public, private enterprises, nonprofit organizations, and schools to find a way toward a cleaner, healthier, and more cost-effective future, EcoFest is the place where we can all learn something green and save some green while helping the planet.

At EcoFest, the public can learn the latest ways to reduce their home’s carbon footprint, see the latest in eCars, test ride eBikes, learn how they can save money with public incentives, kids can take part in a bicycle rodeo and family-centered activities, taste local food and libations, listen to local music, and much more!
